The Restaurant at Kendal College is the ideal place to relax and unwind with great food, great surroundings and great company. The food produced is planned by the college’s kitchen and restaurant team. We plan menus to maximise the students’ learning experience and we describe the food as simple and presented in a contemporary style.

Introduction by Robert Marshall Slater Head of the Lakes Hotel School

Prospectus Image The Restaurant Guide (PDF)Last year saw further successes for the Lakes Hotel School, winning cookery competitions and going on international visits, as well as hosting the celebrated 2011 Food Festival.

This complements the already outstanding hotel school facilities, which include three kitchens, a café with terrace for staff and students, a remodelled bar area and one of the finest cookery theatres, that is used as a base room for catering students and as a private dining room for guests to hire, where they can watch chefs demonstrate the culinary expertise behind the food they then eat.

As you will see, an exciting year beckons with cookery demonstrations, the 2012 Food Festival, Young Cumbrian Chef Competition, fund-raising events for a variety of organisations, events for head chefs, restaurant and hotel managers from leading hotels and restaurants including the Visionary Dining pro chef training finals, visits from international chefs, the Great British menu and the seasonal Cumbrian menus that the Lakes Hotel School has become famous for. Educational visits are an important part of a hospitality catering student's experience, with European visits planned, whilst the Culinary Team have been on the trip of a lifetime to Venice during the Summer of 2011.

This year, the menus and events at the Lakes Hotel School have once again been planned by the College's lecturers, made up of a team of very experienced Chefs and food service staff, who have all worked at renowned establishments in the United Kingdom and Europe. As a team we plan the menus and events to maximise the students' learning experience both in and away from the College, such as canapé receptions on Windermere Lake cruises, wedding receptions and garden parties in South Lakeland. We hope you take advantage of Diners’ Club membership.

Food prepared and served in the Lakes Hotel School is best described as simple with an emphasis on technique and flavour that also takes into account presentation and service style. We believe our food is equal to that of the finest Cumbrian hotels and restaurants. Menus for Restaurant events and functions maximise the use of local seasonal produce. Relationships with all of the Lakes Hotel School's suppliers are well developed and all suppliers support learning as guest speakers or by offering provider demonstrations for our students. The Lakes Hotel School also warmly appreciates the truly outstanding fund-raising support that most suppliers have given over the years. This allows the College to support local charities.
This year we are all very excited about our new venture, The Castle Dairy Restaurant and Art Gallery. Due to open in late September 2011, it will be open for luncheons and dinners, and will be available for hire for special events and celebrations.

The Restaurant is available for breakfasts, luncheons, dinners and private functions as well as conference meetings and events.
