Kendal College students were celebration a full year of hard work and commitment last night, at a special awards ceremony. Over fifty students received awards from everything from dedication and commitment, to academic performance.

Principal Graham Wilkinson said: “It has been another excellent year at Kendal College with some superb results for students and lecturers alike: 70% of teaching is now Outstanding, with success rates in the top 10% of colleges nationally. Our recent IQER Higher Education report was excellent and our Train to Gain successes are 5% above the national average.
"The number of 16-18 year olds choosing Kendal College has almost tripled in eight years and we now have a total of 5167 students at the college on everything from evening courses, apprenticeships and degree level programmes.
"Our apprenticeship success rates are 8% above the national benchmark, Higher Education Success Rates are at 73% and our Key Skills results have increased year on year over the past three years to a fantastic 83%.
"We have achieved the Training Quality Standard for our work with employers, extending it into specialisms such as hospitality, construction and health.
"Our Higher Education courses, the best kept secret at the college, have had some excellent successes this year and the manager of our very own Busy Bees and Deputy Manager of the Little Vicarage Nurseries have both graduated with BA (Hons) Degrees.
"Art and Design hosted a fantastic end of year show and performing arts have put on no less than 15 major productions, culminating in the sell-out Animal Farm Show at the Brewery Arts Centre last week.
"Three students from the Uniformed Public Services course have gained university places to study criminal investigation and criminology, whilst another is starting as a Community Volunteer with the Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service.
"One of our motor vehicle apprentices has got a job in Canada, where he will work for Harley Davidson.
"Staff and students from the beauty department participated in the Star Walk, raising over £700 for charity; nine complementary therapists progressed to the BSc (Hons) at Salford University and one of our level 3 beauty therapy students has been accepted at Derby University to study Spa Management. Kendal College were also overall winners in the Cumbrian Colleges hair and beauty competition
"IT have produced some of the best results ever for the department with students engaging with the community by providing drop-in sessions for the over 60s at Kendal Library; and visits to Newcastle University, to take part in a specialist computer games seminar, and the prestigious Edinburgh informatics suite. Students on the new Foundation Degree in Computing have completed their first year with a 100% success rate and business courses have enjoyed over 90% achievement on their courses.
"The sport department has organised events with local primary schools and volunteering for several charity events for worthy local causes, whilst continuing to enhance the exceptional outdoor adventure experience.
"Three furniture students have gained places at university, with one winning the City & Guilds Medal of Excellence for her work.
"In hospitality the Culinary Team successfully raised funds to enable them to make a historic trip to Dubhai this Summer, whilst the Food Festival attained new heights, with Michelin starred chefs working along Kendal College students.
"In construction, one joiner successfully completed his NVQ and has set up hiw own business, whilst other students developed an enterprise scheme including branding, marketing, design and production of wooden gifts for the college's Christmas Fayre.
"Work has now started on our new performance space at the Arts and Media Campus, which will further add to the college's already excellent facilities and work is in progress on a new engineering department for the new academic year."
