18 May 2009
Kendal College Student Stefan Michaels is looking to a bright future after being accepted on a place at the prestigious Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts to study music.

Stefan, 19, who is from Slyne near Morecambe, plays guitar, bass, drums; and piano to grade 5. He has studied the National Diploma in Performing Arts (Music) at Kendal College for the past two years and is predicted to achieve distinctions when he completes his course
Stefan said: "It's the best thing I could possibly have done since leaving school. It's a good mix of disciplines and it's given me a good foundation for my progression to LIPA.
"At my Audition for LIPA it was clear to me that if I'd taken 'A' levels instead of the BTEC national Diploma I wouldn't have stood a chance of getting in. LIPA appreciate this and agree that the BTEC route has proved to be the perfect way for me to develop my skills and get me ready for a realistic career in Music."
Music Lecturer Tim Riley said: "During his time with us here in Kendal, Stef has proved to be an excellent student. A great mix of theoretical and practical skills he dives into any musical situation with both feet and bags of enthusiasm.
"He has always collaborated well with others and has been an example to anyone he's worked with throughout his time here. We'll definitely miss him when he leaves, but our loss is LIPA's gain"
BTEC National Diplomas are available in a wide range of subjects at Kendal College and are equivalent to three A Levels, meaning that students like Stefan not only have the opportunity to concentrate on their chosen vocation, but they can also apply to degree-level courses in the knowledge that their qualification will carry up to 360 Ucas points.
For further information on National Diplomas see the course section of this website.
