
Kendal College Students Win 'Dragons' Den' Competition

Kendal College students came in first place in a Dragons' Den competition today, hosted at Furness College. The competition was held as part of Cumbria Colleges' collaboration and involved college students from across Cumbria.
The students worked in groups to create either a product, a place or a services. It could either make them money for themselves or for a particular social or environmental cause. It was left up to the students to use their enterprise skills.
1st place – Ashleigh Needham, Samantha Christian (National Diploma Child Care, Learning & Development Year 2) , Stacy Vial, Stephanie Townson, (National Diploma Child Care, Learning & Development Year 1 Group B), Lorna Mulholland – (National Diploma Child Care, Learn & Dev Year 1 Group B)
Students won a trophy and a USB drive each.
Celebrating Diversity
Students were also placed first, second and seventh at a Celebrating Diversity competition held on Friday 27th March at the University of Cumbria's Newton Rigg Campus, hosted by Carlisle College. Three student groups from each College represented their College in the Competition.
The 3 winning groups that went forward to represent Kendal College were the following groups and the places in which they came
1st place: the following students won £100 to split between their group-
Lydia Hoyle, Courtney Alderson, Kate Moss, Chloe Smith, Chloe Dalzel, Beckie Naylor, Katie Rae, Debbie Garnett, Jenny Murphy, Leanne Wallace & Louise Kennon from the Level 3 BTEC National Diploma in Early Years at Kendal College. The performance was called ‘The Diversity Chat Show’. The idea was to hold an interactive talk show, that challenged the perception of stereotypes in and around Cumbria. This was achieved through audience engagement.
2nd place: Emily Parish, Samantha Bonell, Victoria Burns & Amy Baines, they won £50 to split between their group - Level 3 National Diploma in Early Years. Their objective was to focus on the gender aspect and they completed a very effective presentation on the oppression of women, which described how women have fought to be accepted; and talked about media effect on women’s self esteem.
7th place: Lorna Mulholland – Kendal College's National Diploma Child Care, Learning & Development Year 1 Group B. This piece celebrated Gay Pride
