Hospitality and Catering
Tweet
The hospitality industry sector includes all businesses that provide food, beverages and/or accommodation services and includes restaurants, pubs, bars and clubs, hotels, contract catering and hospitality services.
The Hospitality industry can offer a very diverse range of careers such as event organisation, promotion and event management, restaurant and bar work, management, chef work, licensed retailing, events and conferences. According to the British Hospitality Association, the UK hospitality and catering industry is made up of about 263,00 outlets and employs a workforce of 1.7 million people. It is predicted that there will be 69,000 more managerial jobs in the sector in 2017 than in 2007, meaning a bigger demand for staff with higher-level qualifications such as HNDs and degrees. The hospitality sector is truly international, and skills and experience gained in one country can be used in similar jobs throughout the world.
