Higher Education

University of Central Lancashire University of Cumbria

With over twenty years of experience delivering Higher Education programmes, Kendal College can make a great alternative to going away to university.

Whether you want to take your qualifications to a higher level and achieve an honours degree, upgrade your job skills or learn something new, our degree-level courses will provide you with many opportunities. As a partner College of the University of Cumbria and the University of Central Lancashire, students on our degree programmes at Kendal College enjoy a special relationship with the Universities, with many students progressing to degree courses on completion of their Foundation Degree, full-time Diploma or part-time

Foundation Degrees are a new style of HE qualification that enable students to gain a degree level programme that they can top up to a full honours degree with a final year at the respective university. If you have A levels or a
level 3 qualification such as a BTEC National Diploma or NVQ, then a Foundation Degree is a good option for you, giving you the opportunity to improve your skills, understanding and knowledge in line with employers’ needs. You can also study a Foundation Degree part time.

Grants
There are a number of grants that may be available to full and part-time students to help with the cost of fees, materials, the cost of living and even childcare.

Full-time study

Full-time study at Kendal College will usually require you to attend about six to nine hours of lectures per week, although you will be expected to study outside these hours, either at College or at home. If you are a full-time student at Kendal College you will not be required to pay fees before you start your course or while you are studying, although you may do so if you wish. You can apply for a tuition fees loan to cover the cost of your fees. This will give you the advantage of not having to find this money from elsewhere and the student loan company will pay the fees directly to the college. You then repay the fee loan once you have finished studying and are earning over the repayment threshold of £15,000 per year.

Student Loans (repayable) are available to help with your living costs as well as our maintenance grant (non-repayable). Maintenance grants are available for students where the household residual income is less than £50,020. If your household residual income is less than £25,000 then, as a student at Kendal College, you will receive a full grant of £2906. For details about scholarships and bursaries see the Higher Education Section of our website.

Part-time study

Part-time study will usually require you to attend about four to six hours of lectures per week, although you will again be expected to study outside these hours, either at College or at home. As a part-time student you may be eligible for a fee and course grant (non-repayable). This is dependent upon household income and can potentially cover the full cost of the course and materials. Part-time course fees must be paid at the beginning of each year of study. Please feel free to come and talk to one of our student advisors based in Student Services at main site next to reception.

How to Apply

Applications for full time courses are made through the UCAS system. You can obtain details from the Higher Education Co-ordinator at Kendal College on 01539 814748 or email highereducation@kendal.ac.uk. Part-time applications are made directly with the College.
