Engineering

Engineering underpins just about everything from transport to medicine and farming to space exploration. To meet all of these needs requires a vast number of engineers who can work in technical disciplines. The career opportunities are endless. Students will experience a mix of practical and theory including working in our new purpose built engineering workshops on a range of modern, complex machinery from 3D printers to CAD suite systems. Our close working relationships with local employers ensures that our students are learning about the latest technologies, techniques, and production processes across the hugely diverse engineering sector. Our courses meet industry needs and we will ensure that each and every student develops the relevant skills to walk into a career or progress to the next level of study.

“I studied AS level Product Design and loved the subject. It opened up a possible career pathway for me to pursue. The engineering workshop and other facilities available in the college were brilliant. In addition, this College scored higher with Ofsted than any others in the area. The tutor is really helpful and good at engaging the group in activities to help us learn. During my second year, we were given a project to design, build and manufacture a product. This involved sourcing a client base, building materials and working out the cost of producing a prototype. The group I worked with designed and built a mini foundry. It was a brilliant experience. Since completing the Engineering course, I have secured an apprenticeship with EDF in Heysham and hope that this will lead to an HNC programme of study at Kendal College.”

Engineering @ Kendal College

Our Engineering facilities had a complete facelift in 2014 with the opening of our new £1.9m state-of-the-art Engineering, Science & Technology Centre as an extension to our main campus. The Centre houses some of the world’s most hi-tech engineering equipment as well as having a new science laboratory, sustainable energy workshop, and two open-plan engineering workshops. We’re proud of the fact that we’re currently the only college in Cumbria and North Lancashire to have invested in Haas equipment – the world’s largest CNC (computer numerically controlled) machine tool manufacturer so our students will have access to the most up to date, industry standard equipment and facilities available today.

Why Study at Kendal College

Kendal College is well respected for working closely with local employers in the manufacturing industry to produce high quality professionals to meet their current and future business needs. Our learning experience is well-rounded with industry-standard facilities and equipment and tutor support is second to none. In fact, all of our tutors have been employed in the industry so have immensely valuable first-hand knowledge and experience to pass on to our students.

What Can You Do After the Course?

Career opportunities in the engineering industry are endless due in part to there currently being a large shortfall of workers across the UK’s manufacturing sector. Potential jobs include engineers in many industries from aerospace to gas and nuclear, or in transport, medicine and farming. Also, many of our students progress to university and Higher Level study such as undertaking a Degree in Engineering or Computing. Having a degree in one of the STEM subjects is particularly valued by employers. or Computing. Having a degree in one of the STEM subjects is particularly valued by employers.
