Working with children can be one of the most rewarding of all careers, with a huge variety of jobs from working in exotic holiday destinations, to the challenge of working with teenagers who have specific needs. Students will study a variety of subjects, developing theoretical knowledge combined with practical skills in the workplace. The work placements are a key part of these courses as first-hand experience of working with babies and children is crucial to future career development and a great way to learn about and understand children. These courses provide a stepping stone to lots of careers whether in early-years settings or developing onto full teacher-qualified status.
“I tried a year of sixth form and decided that sitting in a classroom all day everyday wasn’t for me; I wanted something more practical. I knew I wanted to work with children, so when I saw this course I knew it was for me; it was both practical and work based. Through this practical work, I learnt lots of new skills which I never thought I would have and it gave me the experience to work with children within a wide age range. All the tutors are amazing! They help you to the best of their ability and spend a lot of time getting to know each and every one of us. As a result, you build up this great relationship; enabling strong communication and support on both sides. After college I am moving to America to be an Au Pair. This is where I live with a family; looking after and caring for their children. I found this opportunity through college and a leaflet they had given to me.”
