Distance learning courses at Kendal College

For a limited time Kendal College is able to offer free distance learning courses to those over 18 years old. The materials are high quality, produced by Tribal and lead to qualifications awarded by NCFE or Ascentis.

  • Equality and Diversity
  • Mental Health Awareness
  • Safe Handling of Medicines
  • End of Life Care

All necessary materials to complete the course will be provided, you just need to provide a pen! All students will be provided with a named tutor who can provide support by telephone, face to face or by email. You will work your way through the workbooks provided and you will be assesed by successful completion of them. You can work at your own pace and there are no set hours.

Most of the courses lead to a full level 2 or 3 qualification and will require you to commit to a number of hours of self study, so you must be prepared to be disciplined! For each qualification there will be a minimum of nine hours of tutor support/assessment.

NCFE L2 Certificate in Customer Service Knowledge

This qualification is relevant for anyone who works, or would like to work, in a customer service role. It develops learners'
knowledge and understanding of how to deliver exceptional customer service, including how to communicate effectively, how to create a positive impression and how to deal with
problems. This programme is a full Level 2 qualification.

Our learning materials for this qualification comprise three mandatory units, covering the following areas:

  • Understanding the organisation
  • Delivering excellent customer service
  • Communication

NCFE Level 2/3 Certificate/Diploma in Customer Service

This qualification is ideal for anyone who deals with customers – either internal or external to their organisation – as a major part of their job role. Available at Levels 2 and 3, the programme aims to develop knowledge and understanding of the key areas of customer service, including communication, problem solving and complaints, working with others and providing a positive impression. The NVQ Certificate is a full Level 2 qualification and the Diploma is a full Level 3 qualification

Our learning materials for the Certificate comprise two mandatory units:

  • Communication using customer service language
  • Following the rules to deliver customer service

The Diploma also comprises two mandatory units:
Demonstrating understanding of customer service
The rules that impact on improvements in customer service

Learners also select a number of optional units to achieve their chosen qualification.

NCFE L2 Certificate in Equality and Diversity

Ideal for anyone who wishes to develop their knowledge of the issues and anti-discrimination laws that relate to equality and diversity. The aim of the course is to give learners an introduction to stereotyping, prejudice and discrimination. It will also help them to identify the basic rights that all people should enjoy and the shared values people have, whilst examining the responsibility each person and organisation has in ensuring that barriers to participation in society are removed. (*Only the Certificate qualification is a full Level 2.)

Our learning materials for these qualifications contain four units. To achieve the Award learners must complete one unit from Section A. To achieve the Certificate, learners must complete one unit from Section A and one unit from Section B. Section A units look at exploring equality and diversity and how people's rights and responsibilities are protected at work. Section B units cover working or learning in a place that promotes diversity and living in diverse communities.

Ascentis L2 Certificate in Mental Health Awareness

Our learning materials for the Ascentis Certificate in Mental Health Awareness aim to broaden learners' knowledge of
mental ill-health and the most commonly diagnosed mental health conditions. The course will enable learners to develop an awareness of the signs and symptoms of these conditions and how they may affect people's day-to-day lives. It also provides an insight into how these conditions can be successfully
managed.

Our learning materials for this qualification comprise ten
mandatory units, covering areas such as:
Understanding mental health

  • Stress
  • Phobias
  • Depression
  • Dementia
  • Schizophrenia
  • Eating disorders

NCFE L2 Certificate in Understanding Safe Handling of Medicines

By working through this programme, learners will receive an
introduction to the various medicines they are likely to encounter in a work environment, including how medicines are dispensed, administered and their possible side effects. The course also explores the procedures for obtaining, storing and disposing of medicines, as well as the legislation surrounding these areas. It maps to the Skills for Care Knowledge Set and is ideal for supporting good practice in the health and social care environment.

Our learning materials for this qualification comprise four
mandatory units, covering the following areas:

  • Understanding medication
  • Prescriptions safe administration
  • Supply, storage and disposal of medication
  • Audit processes

NCFE L3 Certificate in End of Life Care

This course will provide learners with an understanding of the principles of palliative care, encouraging them to take a person-centred approach to meet the emotional, spiritual and social needs of people who are nearing the end of life and their families. The course has relevance to all types of care settings, including hospices, care homes, care in the community and primary care.

Our learning materials for this qualification comprise five
mandatory units, covering the following areas

  • Understanding end of life care
  • Communication during end of life care
  • Care planning; person-centred approaches
  • Care during the final hours of life
  • Bereavement care

Students failing to complete the course will be required to pay the normal fee of £200. Offer expires 31st July 2012. Distance learning course must be completed by 1st September 2012 at the latest to qualify for free fees.
