This 1 year course introduces you to all aspects of production for live performance and provides opportunities for progression to study at a higher level.
The course covers aspects of lighting, sound and set construction through providing all technical and production support for professional events, including the annual college musical at the Brewery, music gigs at Bootleggers and a number of local festivals e.g. Cominc Arts Festival, Kendal Mountain Festival and Moonfest. Students gain additional experience through a work placement at the Brewery Arts Centre.
This is a very practical and hand on course, using a range of the latest technology and equipment. You will work in a state-of-the-art theatre (The Box), which has industry standard facilities. An additional purpose built buliding is also being developed at Wildman Street, due to open in Spring 2016.
You will be taught by industry professionals who have extensive professional experience and this will be supported by specialist workshops with guest lecturers.
The department runs an annual trip to London, where students have the opportunity to see two West End shows, tour famous theatres, undertake workshops and have time for shopping and exploring too.
This course will develop your collaborative skills working with a range of people and your written and verbal communication skills.
This course usually takes place over 3 days, but can be up to 5 days a week when working on upcoming shows and events.
All of our learners will be given support with their English and Maths skills where relevant to their main programme. Those students who have not yet achieved a ‘C’ grade at GCSE in these subjects will continue to work towards these important qualifications at a level suited to them.
This course will be part of a wider study programme, which may also include english & maths, work placement and additional studies.
