If you have considered working in the Outdoor Education industry or have a passion for adventure, this course will arm you with the skills and knowledge to pursue your passion. Being based on the edge of the Lake District National Park, you will have access to a unique landscape in which to improve your skills. You will also have the option to complete a placement in an outdoor education centre, both for practical outdoor adventurous activities and to undertake a work-based project.
This course usually takes place over 3 days per week for two years. You complete the 90-credit Diploma in the first year and the Extended Diploma in the second year. The two-year course is equivalent to 3 A-Levels and is worth up to 168 UCAS points (Triple Distinction*) or 144 UCAS points (Triple Distinction). UCAS have recently changed the UCAS Tariff from September 2017 so they could include more qualifications. The new Tariff points are lower than the original Tariff points but the value remains the same, as universities will just use lower Tariff numbers in their entry requirements than in previous years.
You will benefit from small class sizes and will work with industry professionals in a variety of settings to support your career in the Sport and Leisure Industry.
The course involves a variety of visits to enhance student knowledge and the ability to work with employers.
The course will allow you to develop your organisational skills through planning sports events, motivational skills through delivering sessions and leadership skills through the various additional courses that are completed on the course.
All of our learners will be given support with their English and Maths skills where relevant to their main programme. Those students who have not yet achieved a ‘C’ grade at GCSE in these subjects will continue to work towards these important qualifications at a level suited to them.
This course will be part of a wider study programme, which may also include english & maths, work placement and additional studies.
What will I learn?
