The course considers the role of computer systems and the implications which they have on personal and professional situations. There will be opportunities to explore a range of practical skills linked with areas including relational databases and programming languages. You will investigate cybersecurity threats and vulnerbility, looking at methods to protect systems, as well as studying wider IT requirements and planning a solution for IT service delivery.

The course also explores how businesses use social media to promote products and services, implementing social media activities to meet a business need and investigating project management principles and methodologies.

This course usually takes place over 3 days per week.

On this course you will take part in lively discussions about new technology and use our 3D printer and seperate network, giving you the opportunity to practice networking. The department organises talks from employers, for example, last year BAE gave students an oveview of project management, and Bletchley Park gave a security talk. They also organise industry relevant visits and trips, for example last year students attended EGX in Birmingham, the UK’s biggest gaming event.

All of our learners will be given support with their English and Maths skills where relevant to their main programme. Those students who have not yet achieved a ‘C’ grade at GCSE in these subjects will continue to work towards these important qualifications at a level suited to them.

This course will be part of a wider study programme, which may also include english & maths, work placement and additional studies.

Career Opportunities

This course leads to apprenticeships and employment. It can lead to potential careers in Digital Technology Solutions, IT Management for Business, Computer Networks Security or Business Computing amd Entrepreneurship.

You will need 5 GCSEs Grade 4 or above (A*-C) inlcuding English & Maths, or equivalent e.g. Level 2 Diploma in Information Technology.
