This one year course provides a good overview of hardware and software, as well as considering linked concepts such as mobile and cloud technology. The course is ideal for those looking to gain more understanding of how computers work within business with a more in depth look at specific requirements linked to technology.
This course usually takes place over 3 days per week.
On this course you will take part in lively discussions about new technology and use our 3D printer and seperate network, giving you the opportunity to practice networking. The department organises talks from employers, for example, last year BAE gave students an oveview of project management, and Bletchley Park gave a security talk. They also organise industry relevant visits and trips, for example last year students attended EGX in Birmingham, the UK’s biggest gaming event.
All of our learners will be given support with their English and Maths skills where relevant to their main programme. Those students who have not yet achieved a ‘C’ grade at GCSE in these subjects will continue to work towards these important qualifications at a level suited to them.
This course will be part of a wider study programme, which may also include english & maths, work placement and additional studies.
What will I learn?
This course is made up of seven units - two core units and five specialist units.
During the course you will learn about web development, computer graphics, presenting information using IT, modelling using spreadsheets and communicating and working in the IT industry.
How will I be assessed?
The course is assessed by a combination of external examination and internally set assessments.
The course would allow progression onto an IT apprenticeship or the Level 3 full-time course.
You will need at least one of the following:
Introductory Level 1 Diploma at Merit or Distinction
Four GCSEs grade A*-D including English and Maths
Interview by tutor.
