History, AS-Level

On the AS/A Level History course, you will be in class for 4 and a half hours a week. You will complete the AS-Level in the first year and the full A Level in the second year.

The course includes a wide range of topics, and will be taught through a variety of theory sessions, practical activities and multi-media resources.

The course can be taken in the following ways:

- As a stand-alone part-time course.

- As an ‘add on’ to a Full Time Level 3 Study Programme at the College, for example alongside a BTEC Extended Diploma.

- As part of a study programme with another two A-Levels (full-time package).

During the course you will develop skills of research, analysis and critical thinking, which you will apply to various historical periods.

The full A-Level programme allows topics to be studied in further depth.

Both AS and A-Levels have written examinations in June.

Career Opportunities

An A-Level in History, when combined with other A-Levels, or an Applied or Technical Qualification, may lead to further study at degree level.

History A-Level is well respected for enabling students to develop skills in writing and critical analysis.  This is a valued background for many higher education / degree level courses.

5 GCSEs at Grades A-C (including English and Maths), and a Humanities GCSE (History, Geography, Religious Studies etc.) at grade B (6 or above).
