This course is aimed at individuals wanting to progress into a career in the fashion and textiles industries.

Learning Styles:
Taught elements, demonstrations and hands on practical tasks.

Personal Study:
This course will involve some personal study outside the class, including research.

- Basic Garment Construction
- Core Sewing Skills

How will I be assessed?

The programme offers assessed and non assessed routes, so that you have a choice of whether you would like to follow the qualification or undertake the course for ‘leisure’. You must tell us when you begin which route you would prefer to take.

There is one assessed unit which provides an introduction to research, design and construction of 2 garments. There are no exams.

Next: Entry requirements

Entry requirements

An interest in fashion and constructing garments, and the enthusiasm to learn new skills. Some experience of taking photographs.

Some experience of ‘making’ or ‘crafts’ would also help.

You will need to provide sketchbooks, various drawing materials, a 3H / 4H pencil, a tape measure, paper scissors, fabric scissors, sellotape and a pattern-cutters metric graders set square (available from morplan.com - manufacturing supplies - pattern making - drawing and measuring - graders square).

You will also need to supply fabrics and haberdashery as required for your own projects.  (The course cost includes materials for use in demonstrations and ‘non project’ practical tasks.)
