Accounting (AAT)

AAT is the UK’s leading qualification and professional body for accounting and finance staff. This technician level course is internationally recognised and you will learn key skills which are valuable to all businesses. Classes will include lectures supported by hand-outs, tutor demonstration and worked examples. This is followed by students working practical examples to apply new techniques and practices.

This course runs for 47 weeks.

The course covers the following mandatory units:

-Drafting financial statements
-Financial performance
-Internal controls and accounting systems

You will also study two optional modules which include business tax, personal tax, cash and credit management and external auditing. The options are chosen as a group with tutor guidance.

The units are assessed by a mixture of AAT computer-based exams and tutor assessments throughout the year.  The internal controls and accounting systems module is a project based unit, which is assessed by the tutor.

Career Opportunities

There are wide and varied career opportunities for AAT students including:  Accountant, finance manager and bookkeeper.  Accounting is also a useful skill for someone in a general business management role.  Some students go on to set up their own business as a bookkeeper or undertake the accounting for a family business.

On successful completion of AAT level 4 there is the opportunity to progress to chartered status.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements are the successful completion of AAT level 3 (or similar accountancy qualification).  Please contact a tutor to discuss the most appropriate course for you.

You must pay the membership fees (129 pounds) directly to AAT in order to enrol onto the course.
