Art, Design and Media encompasses a rapidly expanding and ever-changing range of disciplines. Whether you want to become an artist, graphic designer, computer animator, illustrator, fashion designer, sculptor or photographer; programmes available at Kendal College can provide you with a step on the road to one of these rewarding careers, in addition to developing your creative potential.
Many of our students have progressed to a wide range of challenging and exciting courses, gaining their first choice university places; including Textiles at Goldsmiths College, Fashion Promotion at The London Institute, Graphics at School of Art Manchester Met, Fine Art at Edinburgh, Printmaking at Sheffield Hallam University, Fine Art at Falmouth College of Art and Design, Theatre and Performance Design at St Martins in London and Fine Art at Leeds University. Our Foundation Degree in Drawing gives students the opportunity to gain a degree level qualification locally and top up to a full honours degree at the University of Cumbria.
Our Creative Apprenticeships will give you the opportunity to earn a wage whilst gaining nationally recognised qualifications.

Our Art and Design teachers have extensive commercial experience within fine art, 3D design, graphics, digital media and filmmaking in addition to exhibiting their own work and providing consultancy services.
You will work in bright and inspiring studios which are well supported by specialist workshops including print, textiles, 3D and a comprehensive range of the latest Mac-based professional studio software for design, digital imaging, video production, 3D computer modelling and animation. Film production students will capitalise on our established relationship with Kendal Mountain Festival - one of the leading festivals of its kind in the world – and work closely with the Festival and its associates.

* Denotes a YPLA funded course and is free to 16-18 year olds. Over 19s may qualify for free tuition when in receipt of JSA or ESA benefits (excludes part time art, design & media, Indian head, Swedish massage and spa treatment courses).
** You will not have to pay tuition fees if this is your first full level 2 programme (5 A*-C GCSE or equivalent) .
*** You will not have to pay any tuition fees if this is your first full level 3 programme (2 A levels) and are aged 19-25 or if over 25 and do not already have a full Level 2 qualification.
**** You will not have to pay any tuition fees if you do not already have a full Level 2 qualification or above and are intending to progress to a full Level 2 qualification.
*Reg fee refers to any registration, examination, assessment or any other fee related to awarding body.
