TweetWhat do I have to pay an apprentice?
- The minimum wage for an apprentice is £2.60 per hour (regardless of age)
- For 19+ learners £2.60 minimum wage applies only for the first 12 months of the apprenticeship, thereafter the apprentice must be paid at national minimum wage
Who's Eligible?
- 16-18 - Fully funded by the National Apprenticeship Service (no fees apply)
- 19+ Partly funded through the National Apprenticeship Service
- Not eligible: If the candidate has a Level 4 qualification or higher
What do you have to do as an employer?
- Take an active role in training the learner in the workplace and liaise with learner and college, work place observations and reviews
- The learner must have a contract of employment
- The learner should be working 30 hours per week as we advise that a full time role will improve their knowledge and workplace experience and help towards the qualification
How much time will an apprentice have to spend in College?
- An apprentice will spend a maximum of 1 day per week in college, the rest of their time will be spent gaining valuable experience in the workplace as a part of a normal working week
What paperwork is involved in order to enrol a learner on the apprenticeship?
- The assessor will visit the workplace to complete an enrolment form and a sign up pack with you and the learner.
- 12 weekly reviews will take place with the employer, learner and assessor, in the workplace
What levels are apprenticeships offered at?
- These are offered at L2 (Intermediate Apprenticeship) and L3 (Advanced Apprenticeships)
- There is also the option of L4 (Higher Apprenticeships)
How much will it cost?
Only applies to 19+:
- £150 exam & registration (no tuition fees)
- Fees are continuously being reviewed
