Apprenticeships
Apprenticeships allow you to gain qualifications whilst working. You will normally study one day per week in College and the rest of the week developing your skills in the workplace. They are available at two levels, the Apprenticeship normally taking one or two years to complete and the Advanced Apprenticeship normally taking two years to complete.
Apprenticeships are highly valued by employers as they help them to train young people to work effectively in their early careers and develop their skills whilst working. At Kendal College we run Apprenticeships in:
- Accountancy
- Beauty Therapy
- Business Administration
- Care
- Childens’ Care, Learning and Development
- Construction
- Customer Services
- Hairdressing
- Hospitality and Catering
- Electrotechnical Installation
- Motor Vehicle Studies
- Plumbing
- Retail
What does the Apprenticeship involve?
- Employment for a minimum of 30 hours per week with training in both the work place and at College
- Attendance at College on a regular basis usually weekly (one full day)
- You will work towards a National Vocational Qualification, Key Skills and Technical Certificates (where applicable)
- You will have the opportunity to gain additional qualifications relevant to your employment
- You will receive regular monitoring, support and assessment throughout your programme of learning
If you already have GCSEs at Grade A*-C in the relevant areas (eg English, Maths, IT), you will have the opportunity to work towards Key Skills at Level 3 or study one of the wider Key Skills, Working with Others, or Improving Own Learning.
Apprenticeships are open to anyone aged 16 and over. If you already have a job or a promise of work, then we will work with your employer to agree your training programme and start date. If you don’t have a job, we will support you in seeking employment and you can start a programme-led Apprenticeship by starting your studies at college and moving on to an employerled programme once a job has been secured.
What will it cost me?
Apprenticeships are normally FREE to those aged between 16 and 18.
