    Our sites

    Our main campus is on Milnthorpe Road at the southern end of the town and the Arts & Media campus is on Beezon Road as well as new studios being developed at Wildman Street at the northern end of the town close to the railway station. The College also manages Kendal Museum, which is one of the oldest in the country and was founded in 1796. The Museum is fairly unique amongst a small number of organisations in the UK in offering an occupational cultural heritage qualification through its teaching department at the College. The Museum also offers a range of apprenticeships and internships

    2007 – New environmentally friendly Construction Centre opens

    2008 - £12.9 new build and refurbishment of the Main Site Campus

    2011 – We open our new dedicated performance venue, ‘The Box’

    2011 – Our innovative Castle Dairy Restaurant, Art Gallery and Apprenticeship Academy opens to the public with glowing reviews

    2014 – Full refurbishment of the Arts & Media Campus’ Allen Building is undertaken

    2014 – Our pioneering new Animal Rescue Centre opens

    2014 – A new state-of-the-art £2.2million Engineering, Science, Technology & A-Levels Centre is unveiled at our main campus

    2016 – Our new £2.5million Wildman Street Studios at the Arts & Media campus will open

    Our learning areas

    Kendal College offers provision in 21 areas of learning including apprenticeships in more than 30 subject areas and is the county’s leading college for apprenticeship numbers in Cumbria. The college also provides distance learning and work based learning to cater to the needs of its population.

    The College has successfully run degree level programmes for 30 years and continues to grow as a Higher Education provider working in partnership with universities including the University of Cumbria and the University of Central Lancashire. Students have access to a wide range of qualifications including Foundation and Honours Degree courses.

    The College also offers an expanding portfolio of training and development to the local business community, from apprenticeships to specialist short courses working extensively throughout the UK on specialist programmes with major organisations.

    Our teaching staff

    All of our teaching staff at the college are industry trained professionals, which we believe is a key factor in our overall success rates, placing us in the top 10 per cent* of colleges in the UK. (*Top five per cent for 16-18 year olds). Kendal College is also the only college in Cumbria and North Lancashire to be rated Ofsted ‘Outstanding’. (The full Ofsted report can be viewed here).

    We are also the top performing college in the country for helping people get back into the workplace through our Jobworks scheme, which sees people complete short courses and gain work-place qualifications to increase their overall employability.

    The College enjoys Beacon Status and has achieved IQER for its Higher Education provision with some aspects of the Higher Education Strategy being identified as best practice within the industry. In 2015, we achieved a perfect 100 per cent student satisfaction rate for the quality of our Higher Education courses. We also have TQS for our work with employers and the Matrix Award for Advice and Guidance.

    Our students

    There are 3,500 students at the College, which includes all types of learners – full time, part-time (FE & HE), apprenticeships and work-based learning. The number of school leavers choosing Kendal College has almost tripled over the past 12 years and more apprentices choose Kendal College than any other College in Cumbria.

    The Selection Process

    If you are invited to our selection process day the procedure is rigorous and is designed to provide candidates with as much information as possible to enable them to fully understand the requirements of the role. Naturally this enables us to enquire into the background and experience of candidates.

    Candidates for teaching posts will be asked to prepare and deliver a micro teaching session as part of the assessment process, and other selection processes may be used as appropriate. Applicants should be aware that further shortlisting may take place during the selection process day. For example for support roles, data inputting or in tray exercises may be requested.

    Applications will not normally be considered unless they meet the Essential Criteria for the post.
